Someone get this guy a fucking medal.
They made birth control for men. However it never got past the clinical testing stage because its side effects were things like “moodiness, extreme cramping, hunger, increased sexual drive” and were considered INHUMANE.
what the fuck do they think women go through every goddamn month seriously
literally a description of a period
Hero.
Male birth control does exist, but once again tumblr is spreading nonsense. None of the developed male birth control didn’t make it out of clinical trials because they cause BS side effects. A couple caused very serious side effects.
Then you have RISUG, invented in India and going through clinical trials there. It’s basically an injection that damages sperm as it passes through the vas deferens, meaning it can’t impregnate a woman. It’s completely reversible and a fairly easy procedure.
The “problem” with RISUG comes down to the pharmaceutical industry, who do not want this drug to make its way to the US. Because it is a one time injection that lasts until the 2nd injection to reverse it, it’s not much of a money maker for pharma companies. They’d much rather have women taking pills every single month (aka lining their pockets every single month) than a man going out and getting an injection a couple times in his lifetime. So basically the big companies won’t pay for all the trials needed to bring the drug to the US because it’s not in their best economic interest.
So yeah, be outraged that there isn’t a good male contraceptive out there, but don’t make up bullshit about it having sexist underlying reasons. It’s a purely financial game.
